Russian diplomatic spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized this Wednesday Portugal’s “hostile position” towards Moscow over the invasion of Ukraine, noting that “unfortunately, Portuguese-Russian relations are experiencing the deepest crisis in history.”
“The hybrid war unleashed by the global West against Russia has had a destructive impact on the entire complex of relations between Russia and Portugal. And why? Due to the hostile position taken by Portugal since the start of the special military operation. Lisbon was immediately included in politics and anti-Russian rhetoric. As a result, Portuguese-Russian relations are experiencing the deepest crisis in their entire history,” said a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, answering a question from the Lusa agency, posed via videoconference.
The director of the press department of the ministry supervised by Sergei Lavrov noted that “it was the Portuguese side that froze all political contacts and reduced economic relations to a very limited commercial exchange.”
