“The migration pact is a mistake”: Katarina Martins condemns the EU’s actions towards migrants and support for the “weapons business”

Katarina Martins this Thursday condemned the actions of the European Union on the issue of immigration in an interview with the publication CMTV. “The migration pact is a mistake,” said the head of the Bloco de Esquerda list.

The blocker accused the EU of “paying for concentration camps in Turkey and Lebanon,” thereby contributing to the growth of illicit trafficking. The candidate for the European Parliament clarifies that the problem of migration is not related to “open borders”, but to “integration”.

Katharina Martins detailed how only a few people are “settled” in Europe, while the rest, without legalization, “are at the mercy of the mafia, have no living conditions and are exploited by unscrupulous landlords.”

Defending Europe

The head of the BE list excludes the “already ignored by many” possibility of creating a European army.

On the other hand, the blockade participant condemns the EU’s support for the “weapons business.” “I don’t want our money to be used to make weapons that are killing children in the Gaza Strip,” he said.

Katarina Martins blames European institutions for not taking advantage of their privileged position to bring peace to Ukraine.

The former party leader also praised Portugal’s “enviable” renewable energy production, while condemning the EU’s “millions” in spending on fossil fuels.

On housing, Katarina Martins was adamant: “We have to do our part, but Europe decides a lot, especially on interest rates.”
