BE wants to hear in Parliament from the Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, and the President of the National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Youth, Rosário Farmhouse, about the alleged “cover-up of situations of violence” in the school context. .
In the requests submitted, the blockade parliamentary group considers it necessary to “explain situations of violence occurring in the school environment, determine responsibility for concealing these problems, identify situations of negligence and lack of support for children who have become victims of violence.”
“There is a need to determine whether school leaders are acting in accordance with their responsibilities and what the department intends to do to ensure a safe school environment for all children and young people,” one of the requests said.
The party recalls that Radio Renascença reported on Tuesday that a nine-year-old Nepalese boy was “the victim of a lynching” at a school in Lisbon.
The complaint was made over the radio by the executive director of the church institution Centro Padre Alves Correia (Cepac), who considered that “the motives of the other minors were xenophobic and racist.”
In response to questions from Lusa and other media about the case, the ministry said Wednesday that Cepak “initially refused to cooperate” and that only “after persistent requests” it was able to identify the school where the attacks took place.
“Upon contacting the concerned school in Amador, management was informed that the only students of Nepalese nationality attending the group were pursuing secondary education. It also stated that it was completely unaware of the alleged episode or any similar situation and did not even record any disciplinary incidents,” the ministry added.
In this context, the blockers believe that “the Ministry of Education cannot simply state that it does not know about a particular situation,” arguing that “it is necessary to act.”
Prosecutors opened an investigation into an alleged attack on a Nepali child at school on Thursday, but said the complaint did not indicate the victim’s nationality, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) said today.
This Thursday, the Education Minister confirmed that he was not aware of the alleged aggression and stressed that all cases of violence must be reported to the authorities.
