This Friday, the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security accepted the resignation of the President of the Social Security Institute (ISS), highlighting Ana Vázquez’s “zeal and commitment” to her position, in which she will remain until she is replaced.
“The request was accepted by the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, who emphasized the zeal and commitment of Ana Margarida Magalhães Vázquez to fulfill her position, and this decision has already been communicated to the parties concerned,” – Ministry of Labor This was stated in a statement by the organization Solidarity and Social security” (MTSSS) this Friday.
Ana Vasquez “will continue to serve in her duties until she is replaced,” MTSSS also said in a statement.
ISS President Ana Vázquez submitted her resignation to Minister Maria do Rosario Ramalho because she realized that the current government had demonstrated a “lack of trust” following the issue of IRS withholding of pensions.
In a letter sent to Minister Maria do Rosario Ramalho and to which Lusa had access, the president of the Social Security Institute states that she decided to resign following “the public position taken by the government regarding adjustments to the IRS withholding of pensions paid to ISS in April and May “
“The display of surprise and ‘surprise’ at this decision and the consequent omission of this issue at the meeting on April 22 between the ISS board, Your Excellency and the Minister of Social Security, objectively represent a manifestation of the government’s lack of confidence in the president of the ISS board of directors,” the letter says.
This pension issue arose after the Jornal de Negócios reported the case of pensioners who faced a decrease in the net value of a pension paid in May, without a receipt explaining this fact, since the gross value of the pension was maintained, as was the tax withholding rate. but not the discount amount.
The Social Security Institute subsequently clarified that adjustments were made to the IRS withholdings of April and May pensions for 328,000 retirees to correct the withholdings made in January based on the “preliminary” table.
