The President of the Republic believes that teachers “deserve” to have their seniority restored, and the agreement is “reassuring”

On Tuesday, the President of the Republic considered that the agreement reached between the National Federation of Education (FNE) and the government to restore four years of teachers’ service was “pacifying” and that teachers deserve it.

“I already knew about this recent news and I think that this is an issue that is an election commitment and that teachers deserve and it pacifies for the next school year,” said Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 30th anniversary celebration Arpad Senes Museum – Vieira da Silva, Lisbon.

The head of state was asked that the National Federation of Education (FNE) and the government today reached an agreement to restore the work experience frozen during the Troika, which will be returned within four years.

When asked if he was worried about the start of the next school year, the President of the Republic replied that he was not.

“I’m not worried, but I think it’s important to resolve this issue, and the sooner the better, because then the government has other tasks,” he added.

According to the terms determined between the trusteeship and the union federation, six years, six months and 23 days will fall over four years: 50% in 2024 and 2025, and the rest in 2026 and 2027.

“Within two years and 10 months, all frozen service time will be restored,” Pedro Barreiros emphasized, “this is due to the fact that the process will begin on September 1, 2024 and end on July 1, 2027.

After the meeting with FNE, which lasted more than three hours, in the afternoon MECI will also host FENEI, SIPE, FEPECI, SPLIU, SNPL, ASPL, SIPPEB, SEPLEU, Pró-Ordem and Stop.

The final day of meetings concludes with the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof), which is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m.
