Income controls, the return of 25 days of annual leave or new parental leave for children under eight are just some of the projects BE is bringing to parliament for debate this Wednesday.
The plenary debate, which will not include the government, is being held under the theme “The Good Life: A Home to Live in and Time to Live,” with a focus on the housing crisis and working conditions.
The blockers propose to suspend the issuance of rights to tourism enterprises until September 2030, with the exception of “tourism enterprises located in inland territories”, as well as establish a set of rules for rent control and the establishment of maximum rents.
BE is also promoting legislation that aims to “limit the spread of local occupancy in residential properties” by creating “containment zones with clearly defined restrictions and rules for the expiration of relevant licenses.”
“We also strive to preserve the character of this type of business, always presented as an activity for small owners as a way to supplement family income, preventing its exploitation by management companies,” the project says.
To these projects, BE adds a resolution that recommends that the executive branch instruct the Caixa Geral de Depósitos to reduce interest rates on housing loans.
Regarding “life time” and working conditions, the BE Parliamentary Group is debating two bills: one aimed at creating a new leave of five days a year “without any justification or certificate” for parents with children under the age of eight and another proposing the return 25 days of annual leave, taken away by the “troika’s intervention”, and the right to a day off on a birthday.
The blockers also recommend that the executive branch “implement the announced pilot project of a four-day week in public administration and the state’s business sector, ensuring that this occurs in the second half of 2024” and create the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), a mechanism to support private companies and organizations social sector wishing to switch to a four-day working week.
PS has drawn into this debate a bill that seeks to establish a legal regime for additional residence, “extending it to displaced non-scholarship students from families with annual incomes lower than those included in the IRS 6th grade level” and the Liberal Initiative proposes, among other things, the abolition of the additional municipal property tax (AIMI), commonly known as the “Mortagua tax.”
Livre wants to enshrine the right to a seven-hour workday, 35 hours a week and 25 workdays as a minimum vacation period, as well as paid leave for extracurricular professional internships. The party is also recommending that the government implement a four-day week pilot program in public administration later this year.
PCP and PAN also offer 25 working days annual leave to all employees.
