A negative coalition, similar to the one that approved the IRS cut and the abolition of tolls in some Scoots, could return to parliament this Friday to reduce the VAT rate on electricity to 6%.
The proposal comes from the PS and must receive the green light from Chega and the Liberal Initiative (IL). With this diploma, the socialists propose to apply a VAT rate of 6% “to the first 200 kWh of electricity consumed each month, which is double the current 100 kWh. For large families, it doubles from the current 150 kWh to 300 kWh per month.”
“This is a measure that broadly corresponds to what is envisaged in our election program, we recognize that it is viable,” an official from the Chegi bench told Luse.
Bernardo Blanco, coordinator of the IL parliamentary group, said his group “will approve all projects that propose a reduction in VAT on electricity.”
