The Department of National Defense says it has found irregularities in the licensing of commercial and industrial activities related to military goods and technology since 2015, and ordered a review this Saturday.
The defense will establish that the “possible licensing” was carried out with a company whose partner was sentenced to prison.
“The Minister of National Defense will require the General Inspectorate of National Defense to conduct an audit to verify compliance with the law and determine all responsibilities in relation to all trade and industrial licenses issued in relation to military goods and technology. Ministry of National Defense since 2015,” the department said in a statement.
Licensing supervision is carried out “to guarantee the suitability of the owners of the persons or companies involved, by the Directorate General of National Defense Resources (DGRDN) and the Directorate of National Security (GNS).
The ministry, led by Nuno Melo, says that if this partner’s conviction is confirmed, “both levels of control will fail.”
