The General Secretary of the Socialist Party, Pedro Nuno Santos, this Sunday rejected any interference in any decision on possible alliances between socialists in Madeira, considering that “whoever manages to have a majority rules” and that on the right “it is a mess” and now the region is autonomous .
In response to the Madeira election results from PS headquarters in Lisbon, the Socialist leader noted that despite winning without an absolute majority, “the PSD has its worst result ever.”
Pedro Nuno believes that the PS, which came second with the same number of deputies as in the last elections, “continues to be an inevitable political force” in the region.
Asked about statements by PS/Madeira leader Paulo Cafofo that the Socialists are ready for dialogue and the creation of government alternatives to the PSD, Pedro Nuno Santos refused to intervene in the matter and emphasized respect for regional autonomy.
“It is never good to systematically participate in elections, but there must be stability. Whoever can have the majority rules,” he responded, refusing to make any judgment on possible PS coalitions to govern.
According to the PS leader, “there is confusion on the right at the national level and also in Madeira.”
