The leader of the Livra list in the upcoming regional elections in Madeira said this Monday that Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) was the “big winner” of Sunday’s elections, admitting that his party still “still has a long way to go.”
“The Livre managed to retain the electorate if we compare the level of vote growth, for example, with the parties in the government, that is, in the Assembly. [Regional]”, said Marta Sofia Silva, adding that “JPP, without a shadow of a doubt, was the big winner because it managed to get votes […] in different directions”.
The Livre candidate spoke to Lusa after the results of the early regional elections for the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira became known, in which the PSD won with 36.13% of the votes, but without an absolute majority.
“Overall I’m not surprised that the SDP won, I’m not surprised that they abstained, it really surprises me when we see in terms of votes a huge decline in the number of parties within the left.” right dichotomy, having lost many votes,” Marta Sofia emphasized, regretting, however, that they abstained, which amounted to 46.60%, according to preliminary data from the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The election results leave “a lot of doubt about how” Miguel Albuquerque will be able to form a government when there are those who refuse to make his leadership of the executive branch viable, such as Chega, who retained four deputies, he added.
According to Marta Sofia, if elected to the regional parliament, Livre will give “strength and hope to the people, because, being a very young party,” it “still has a long way to go,” but the votes received “will not be abandoned or betrayed.” “.
“Madeira still doesn’t know, the people of Madeira and Porto Santos still don’t know how it will be managed, we’ll see in the next few days,” he noted.
The candidate assured that “Livre’s work will continue on the ground” and “in this scenario, this can and should be the missing left-wing alternative,” even as she saw during the campaign that “people are really fed up.” with so many choices.
