“If the war ended tomorrow with a victory for Ukraine and that overshadowed my campaign, I could only be happy,” Sebastian Bugallo told reporters on the sidelines of a farm visit in Regengos de Monsaraz.
The AD candidate expressed confidence that Portugal will confirm its “full and absolute commitment to peace in Ukraine and an end to Russian aggression.”
“We know that the only way to end the war and ensure the security of Europe is the defeat of Russia. Portugal remains committed to providing financial, military, economic and humanitarian support to Ukraine,” he said.
When asked if there was time on his agenda for a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Sebastian Bugalho stressed that the visit would have an aspect of “institutional relations between states with the Prime Minister and the President of the Republic.”
“I admit that, concentrating on my election program, I did not receive any invitation, but it is obvious that in spirit and politically I am on the side of President Zelensky and the Ukrainian struggle. This is much more important than any photo we can take,” he said He. said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Portugal on Tuesday, where he will be received by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, following an invitation issued in August 2023.
According to a note published on the official website of the President of the Republic on the Internet and simultaneously published by the Office of the Prime Minister, “President Zelensky’s working visit is part of the overall intention to deepen the excellent relations between the two states, in particular to focus on strengthening cooperation in the field of security and defense.”
“During his stay, the President of Ukraine will hold working meetings with Prime Minister Luis Montenegro and will be received by President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza,” the text says.
According to the same joint note, Zelensky’s visit “will also be an opportunity to reaffirm Portugal’s commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as to maintaining political, military, financial and humanitarian support for Kyiv.”
