IL wants to elect an MEP in European elections and points to abstinence as a “big opponent”

The head of the Liberal Initiative list in the European Parliament, João Cotrim de Fugueiredo, today set the goal of electing an MEP on June 9 and pointed to abstinence as a “big opponent.”

“Our goal is what we set at last year’s convention: to elect an MEP and, if the campaign is successful, to have the ambition to do more,” the Liberal candidate told reporters on the first official day of the convention. European Union election campaign.

Following the rally in Lisbon, which began in Campo Pequeño and ended in Saldanha, João Cotrim de Figueiredo stressed that IL is the only party that has an “integrated, global and complete vision of Europe” and that “it is not here.” pursue national policies at the expense of European policies.”

What IL wants is “simply for Europe to grow, for Europe to be a space of freedom, peace and prosperity, because that benefits Portugal,” he said.

“We have to recognize that we don’t see projects with the same consistency these days,” he said.

João Cotrim de Figueiredo, who was accompanied at the rally by party president Rui Rocha, suggested that if the result was bad, the responsibility would clearly fall on him, but if it was good, it would be “shared with the whole team.”

As for the main opponent, the IL candidate in the European elections announced his abstention and called on people to vote in advance on June 2 from anywhere in the country or on the 9th.

“They will vote. Then when they are there, once they are there, vote for the Liberal Initiative, because it has the most coherent project,” he insisted.

At a rally that lasted more than an hour, João Cotrim de Figueiredo called on people to vote and not discount the European elections.

Halfway there, the Liberal Party candidate crossed paths with a man who admitted that he had not voted for IL.

“And yet,” replied João Cotrim de Figueiredo, who then asked: “Do not deny from the very beginning a science that you do not know.”

Already on the terrace, the liberal leader of the European list met a couple “very interested in European affairs” who guaranteed his vote.

Having received a promise to vote, João Cotrim de Figueiredo took the opportunity to leave several leaflets under the heading “On vacation on the 9th? Vote first on the 2nd” so that the couple can spread and thus convince more people to vote for IL. .

The last European elections in 2019 were the first election event in which IL made its mark (after its founding in 2017), polling less than 30,000 votes (0.88% of the total).
