PAN representative confirms support for Kyiv, but regrets the lack of invitation to “all political forces”

PAN spokeswoman Ines de Souza Real on Tuesday reaffirmed her support for Ukraine, but expressed regret that the invitation to host President Volodymyr Zelensky “was not extended to all political forces.”

“When the MHP expressed its unequivocal support for Ukraine, it did so not only on humanitarian grounds, because we also respect the self-determination of the people and because we completely reject Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” he stressed.

Speaking to journalists in Sines, Setubal district, during a rally during the European election campaign, Ines de Souza Real recalled that PAN was one of the first parties to condemn the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin and defend the support of the Ukrainian people “on all fronts.”

“It is thanks to PAN that the Assembly [da República] recommended to the president [da Republica], Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, award to Vladimir Zelensky. Therefore, we only regret that other political forces were not invited to the reception,” said Vladimir Zelensky.

When asked by journalists about the reception that the head of state and Prime Minister of Portugal will host this Tuesday in honor of the President of Ukraine, the PAN spokeswoman confirmed her desire to attend the meeting, despite the previously planned election campaign for Zelensky’s visit.

“Obviously, yes, that is, we respect the Ukrainian people, we respect their pain and we are with them in this very difficult time that people are going through, because we believe that not only Europe needs peace,” but also “this war, which “on our entire European territory” we need to “overtake”.

In his opinion, it is important “that we ensure that not only through economic sanctions, but also through the prosecution of war crimes committed by Vladimir Putin, we can somehow achieve peace, on the one hand, but also prevent impunity for the massacre committed against the Ukrainian people.”

Drawing a parallel with the Palestinian people, Ines Souza Real stressed that we are currently witnessing “two wars” with “innocent victims” that should lead to actions of “solidarity and greater efforts to restore peace.”

Regarding the unification of political forces in supporting Ukraine and welcoming Vladimir Zelensky, the PAN representative recalled that her party “respects Europe and wants to be in Europe” and also “guarantees the expansion of the European Union to countries like Ukraine.”

“We see this as an opportunity, not a threat to what our development could be, but rather that we are all guided by the same values so that we can strengthen the power of Europe,” he stressed.

It is important for PAN to “guarantee our food sovereignty, as well as invest in production areas that are often left behind, such as legumes and grains, and we know that Ukraine itself can create and provide the opportunity for a new market for all member states.”

“In this sense, we regret that the invitation was not extended to all political forces, but this in no way makes us less present when it comes to our support for Ukraine, and working for it both in Ukraine and in Palestine, we must recognize their dedication and that these civilian victims can find the peace they have demanded, demanded and fought for for a long time,” he concluded.
