Chega forced delay of IRS proposal to prevent ‘another defeat’ for government

President Chegi explained this Wednesday that he forced the postponement of the vote on the text of the PSD replacement and the CDS-PP on the reduction of the IRS in order to avoid “another defeat” for the government in parliament.

“Chega again asked for this postponement to prevent another defeat for the government in the Assembly of the Republic and to give us the opportunity to reach an understanding on an issue that is so important to the people, namely taxes,” he said.

Andre Ventura spoke to journalists before the rally in Beja, which did not include the head of the list, António Tangier Correa.

Asked if he wanted to help the government, Ventura said Chega was calling on the parties to “come to a consensus text on the IRS, and the government is ignoring it.”

“There have been approaches, all parties have made proposals,” he noted, arguing that “the government cannot simply want to vote for its own and ignore the proposals of others if others have proposals that improve the government’s proposal.”

“Chega forced the IRS proposal to be delayed this Wednesday and, as expected, the government began the usual shouting match that will continue for the next few months,” he charged.

President Chegi reiterated that “the government’s proposal was frankly negative” and considered that if parliament “is discussing the reduction of tax intensity at intermediate and low levels and the minimum subsistence of one thousand euros, then it is because of Chegi.”

Given that “the government should have less to lose than we have to complain and more time to work,” Ventura warned that the PSD and SDS-PP will not “force a measure or set of measures through political pressure or blackmail that is not appropriate for the people.”

“The government has entered into the logic of whining, everything that is happening is a negative alliance and a negative coalition, they will not be allowed to govern. This is absurd, people are waiting for measures, waiting for something to appear, and this does not allow it to happen,” he said.

Andre Ventura also assured that Chega does not work as “blackmail.”

“The Government will have whatever defeats it wants in Parliament until it introduces measures that benefit the middle class and those who earn less. As long as it worries about introducing measures for those who earn more, we will not side with these measures,” he said.
