Prepare for the heat: Temperatures are expected to rise above 30 degrees across the country.

Maximum temperatures will continue to rise on Wednesday and Thursday, reaching 39 degrees in the south of the country and in the Tagus Valley. The areas of Évora, Beja, Santarem and Portalegre are under a yellow warning from 11:00 this Wednesday until 18:00 Friday.

The Portuguese Sea and Atmospheric Institute warns of a “significant increase in the risk of rural fires” in the “Inland North, Center and Southern Region”.

The General Directorate of Health is calling for “special attention” to be given to the most vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, chronically ill people, pregnant women, people with limited mobility, outdoor workers, those involved in physical activity and isolated people. He also recommends increasing your water intake and avoiding direct sun exposure, especially between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The heat is due to depression from Morocco to the Iberian Peninsula. Values ​​above 30ºC are expected across the continent. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly over the weekend, but values ​​will remain high over the following days.
