Small European candidate parties support aid to Ukraine and want peace through politics

The leaders of the list of small parties in the European Parliament argue that Ukraine should be supported in the war against Russia, while the majority is against sending troops to the battlefield.

New Right candidate Ossanda Lieber argued that aid should be given to Ukraine, but “to the limit” where the European Union becomes a “war accomplice”.

“I think that [o envio de soldados] for Ukraine, “this is a mistake, because Ukraine has allies, but the Russians also have partners,” the candidate believes, adding that Russia’s partners are “the entire non-Western world.”

Therefore, Ossanda Lieber prefers the diplomatic path to resolving the conflict and regrets that “at the moment there is no Western/European interlocutor with Russia.”

Negotiations are also the path championed by Pedro Ladeira of the Nos Cidadaos party, for whom the war in Ukraine is a way to achieve economic growth after the Covid-19 pandemic.

This leader argued that the conflict between the two countries began eight years ago due to the problems of Donbass and Crimea, but the European Commission paid attention to the situation only after the pandemic, he criticized.

Pedro Ladeira, who said he learned from Ukrainian friends that “the war has taken a backseat,” also believes the conflict is “not what they say” and criticizes the lack of willingness to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Erguete’s candidate Rui Fonseca e Castro, who threatened to “start a war in Portugal” if his sons were called to fight in Ukraine, believed that the conflict with Russia has two goals: “financially deplete Europe” and “destroy Europe.” Slavic people.”

Marcia Henriques, who is running for RIR, said she was received on Thursday by Ukraine’s ambassador to Portugal, who allegedly told her the situation was not as serious as it seemed in the news.

According to the RIR leader, “Ukraine has the right to defend itself and the right to help,” and it will be inevitable that Europe will send the military there: “I think that this will happen eventually, because otherwise we will be in this war until 2030.” or 2040 or 2050,” he said.

Gil Garcia of MAS criticized the way Europe is fighting the war, warning that the conflict could lead to a “third world war” and that increasing the arms budget would only make the situation worse.

“If we do this, there will be no money for civil servants, there will be no money to increase the average salary, there will be no money for jobs,” he believes.

ADN candidate Joana Amaral Díaz acknowledged that “Europe does not have to be neutral,” but must consider itself a “protagonist for peace” and conflict resolution at the “negotiating table.”

The ADN leader expressed surprise that Putin was not invited to the negotiating table when Europe “decided to hold a peace summit, which is planned to be held in Switzerland,” which should become, in her opinion, “a kind of puppet summit.” because the Russian President was not invited.

Also in favor of peace negotiations was José Manuel Coelho of the PTP, who criticized the “nonsense” of some other debaters and said that his position on the war in Ukraine is “the same as that of the Holy Father, Pope Francis,” remembering that “the problem not only in those who die, but also in those who are crippled by war.”

MPT candidate Manuel Carreira recalled that there is also a war in the Middle East and stressed that insecurity “is like a feeling that destroys”, so it is necessary to “create your own protection” through “compulsory military service or, alternatively, civil service.”

The creation of a joint armed force of the European Union was also a measure defended by Duarte Costa of the Volta, who considers it necessary to “mobilize the defense capacity of national states for a common defense project.”
