Most of the small parties running in European elections favor greater controls on immigration into Europe, a fight against human trafficking networks and more support for those entering the European Union (EU).
In a televised debate in which RTP brought together on Thursday nine parties without seats in parliament, Rui Fonseca e Costa of Herge was the most controversial voice on the topic, believing that “Portugal does not need a majority of immigrants.” non-Europeans present in the country, including those from PALOP.”
“They are taking our jobs and our homes,” the candidate said, defending the country’s need to “promote the Western Christian matrix and invest in fertility and fertility policies so that Portugal’s population increases.”
Pedro Ladeira from Nos Cidadan considers it “undeniable that Europe needs immigrants” and believes that “campaigns aimed at immigration from countries that speak the same language and have Jewish-Christian origins should be encouraged.
According to the candidate, if this does not happen, “Muslims will take over Europe.”
The New Right and the ADN advocated the importance of controlling immigration and combating illegal immigration networks.
Joana Amaral Díaz, head of the ADN list, classified the immigration mafia, a group that included some NGOs, as “wolves in sheep’s clothing”, while Ossanda Lieber of the New Right said the message being conveyed was that “anyone can come because there is no control.”
Duarte Costa of Volt believes it is necessary to “fight anti-immigration ideology that harms companies and create administrative solutions that respond to the desires of immigrants.”
Regarding the RIR, the head of the list, Marcia Henriques, believes that if existing legislation applies to immigration, this will not be a problem in Portugal.”

In a debate that lasted almost two hours, RTP brought together nine parties without seats in parliament that are participating in the European elections on June 9: ADN, MAS, Ergue-te, Nova Direita, Volt Portugal, RIR, Nos Cidadãos, MPT and PTP .
The creation of a European minimum wage and a European constitution, which is defended by the head of the RIR list, direct elections to the European Commission, the distribution of funds, housing problems were just some of the topics covered in the debate, which also focused on the EU’s role in the conflict in Ukraine.
