Pedro Nuno Santos, focused on victory, refuses to reflect on the results

PS Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos assured this Friday that he is determined to win the European Championship, but refused to make any assumptions about the results, saying that Luis Montenegro “won by a small margin and is the Prime Minister.”

“We want to win the elections. This is a clear goal. The PS is not going to these elections for any other result than victory, and we believe that it is very important to give strength to the socialists in Europe,” responded the leader of the socialists on the side of the street from Marta Temido’s campaign to European women in the streets of Covilha, Castelo district -Branco.

Asked what a comfortable victory would be, Pedro Nuno said it was not his job and refused to “speculate about the election results.”

“Let’s not predict anything. At the moment we are focused on Europeans,” he emphasized.

Regarding the relationship between the results of the European elections and the possible positioning of the IPS in relation to the current government, the Socialist leader admitted that “the politics that are happening cannot be ignored”, since there is “a government that is very keen to present the work now working in twos, with the Councils of Ministers”.

“But we have Europeans, we are focused on Europeans. At the moment, it makes no sense for us to draw any conclusions,” he insisted.

Regarding the possibility that the short result would create problems for the PS, the PS general secretary countered: “So we have a prime minister who won by a small margin and is the prime minister.”

“We want to win the European elections, that’s what we are focused on,” he repeated.

Pedro Nuno Santos expressed concern about abstinence and called for “no one to stay at home.”

“It doesn’t have to be fatigue. I’ve heard this expression about election fatigue many times. Democracy needs to be celebrated, so in these years, when we celebrate the 50th anniversary of its achievement, we do not need to look at elections, election campaigns as unpleasant things that are an obstacle in our lives,” he said.

For the leader of the PS, elections are one of the “greatest victories”, and “democracy, participation in elections, voting is a holiday.”

Asked about early voting, for which registration has already closed, Pedro Nuno Santos said he would vote on the 9th, believing that if possible, one should “vote on election day, since the official campaign lasts two weeks.”

“Early voting was a very important innovation to allow those who cannot vote on Election Day to vote, but those who can vote on Election Day should choose to vote on Election Day, and that is why I am going to vote on June 9,” pointed out.
