Montenegro promises to set the counter to zero on waiting lists for cancer patients

The Prime Minister said this Friday that the government wants to reset the “cancer waiting time meter” and said that having a government “that decides” is the best way to “put an end to extremism and populism.”

At the AD rally in support of the Europeans in Santa Maria da Feira, Luis Montenegro summed up the first measures taken by the head of the PSD/CDS, which he has led since April 2.

“We have a government that delivers on its commitments, it seems little, but delivering on what it promises is the best way to restore and restore trust with voters and put an end to extremism and populism and those who take advantage of pent-up voter frustration that is not being identified people’s most immediate reactions,” he said.

Montenegro admitted that one could even say that the government “makes decisions poorly or makes decisions that do not correspond to the wishes of some people, but it cannot be said that it does not keep promises.”

The PSD leader recalled that this week the government presented an emergency health plan and promised to “do more” in this area.

“As part of restoring queues, we will reset the counter in case of cancer. We all know that if there is an area where we cannot accept delays, then there is an area where maximum response time is needed. you’ll never get there. This is oncology,” he said.

The prime minister also cited the decision on the location of the future airport in Alcochete as an example to illustrate that the government “decides what is strategic.”

“It is not me, as Prime Minister, who intends to open the Luis de Camões airport. In any case… it will be so, more or less to the limit, in ten years,” he joked.

In her speech, Montenegro called for participation in the next European elections, once again reminding us that we can vote as early as next Sunday or the 9th at any polling station without prior registration, emphasizing what this vote is about.

“We have returned to the roots of the European spirit. Europe is a project of well-being and prosperity, but above all it is a project of democracy,” he said, arguing that Portugal is an average country in the European Union but has always been a “leader in basic matters” such as like the defense of Ukraine.

Shortly before the rally, as he walked along the Santa Maria da Feira street with the head of the European list, he was asked about the criticism leveled at Ursula von der Leyen on the 6th in the AD campaign.

The PSD leader believed that this presence could be a way to show the Portuguese that “a vote for the political family of the current President of the European Commission is a safe vote” to protect the future.

“We have in Brussels today at the head of the European Commission, and we expect it to continue for the next five years, someone with a very real, intimate vision of what Europe is today, its great challenges and Europe’s role in the world.” , he emphasized.

In this context, he said AD was only focused on “getting closer to Portuguese men and women”, discounting criticism of a possible approach to the far right.

This rally, which concluded the fifth official day of the campaign, was attended by the Deputy Minister and Minister of Territorial Cohesion Manuel Castro Almeida, as well as PSD and SDS-PP deputies such as Salvador Malheiro, Paula Cardoso or João Almeida.
