Marta Temido says Portugal recovered from delay thanks to European funds

The head of the PS list for Europeans said this Sunday that it was thanks to European funds that Portugal managed to recover from the delay in which it found itself due to its remote geographical location and, above all, lack of qualifications.

“I would like to remind you that it was thanks to the means that we were able to recover from the situation of delay, because there is no other name in terms of skills, differentiation of training compared to other European countries,” he argued.

In her speech at the European meeting held in Viseu, in a keynote lecture at the Polytechnic Institute that was “half-baked,” the MEP candidate hinted at the high level of illiteracy that Portugal recorded 50 years ago “when democracy was established.”

“Even in 1981, the closest year for which data is available compared to our entry into the European Economic Community, the illiteracy rate in Portugal reached almost 20%,” he added.

According to Marta Temido, over the past nine years in Portugal, between 40 and 50% of young people aged 20 have completed higher education.

“What are we doing! Today, 400 thousand young people over the age of 20 are receiving higher education. This is what Europe is, this is that we can maximize our capabilities, our skills and have cohesion funds, not only at the level of concrete maintenance, but what is the improvement of our development capabilities, our production capacities,” he added.

In his opinion, similar to what António Guterres “taught,” “there is nothing better than education as a social engine in the fight against inequality.”

“We can’t do without this dream,” he assured.

During her speech, Marta Temido also called on “everyone to remember well the example of Jorge Coelho’s activity” in the second week of the election campaign, which will begin.

“About his ability to fight, to be positive, to affirm, to affirm differences and to make socialists and everyone else who accompanies us in this project a better and more just society: moving forward. Let’s move on to next week with the creativity of Jorge Coelho always present in our spirit and in our hearts,” he concluded.
