The President-designate of the XV Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque (NSD), presents on Tuesday the composition of the new executive body to the representative of the Republic in the region, Ireneu Barrett, at the Palacio de São Lourenço in Funchal.
On Wednesday, the representative of the Republic of Madeira appointed Miguel Albuquerque, who is also the leader of the regional PSD, to form a government based on the parliamentary agreement concluded with the PSD-PP, after rejecting the joint solution proposed by the PS and the JPP.
Ireneu Barreto listened to the seven parties elected two days after the regional elections that took place on May 26 and considered that the joint government solution presented by the PS and JPP, which together have 20 deputies, would have “no chance of success.” .
The consulting judge, on the contrary, argued that “the solution presented by the party with the most votes, the SDP, which has an agreement on parliamentary protection with the SDS, and in principle the non-hostility of Chegi, PAN and IL will have all the conditions for their program to be approved by the Legislative Assembly.”
The SDP won the regional elections early, electing 19 deputies, leaving it five terms short of achieving an absolute majority. The regional parliament consists of 47 seats, with 24 deputies required for an absolute majority.
The PS elected 11 deputies, the AKP nine, Chega four and SDS-PP two, while IL and PAN elected one deputy each. The CDU (PCP/PEV) and BE, which received a mandate in the previous regional elections, found themselves outside the parliament.
The early elections in Madeira came eight months after the previous regional elections, after the President of the Republic dissolved the Madeiran parliament following a political crisis triggered in January when the leader of the regional government (PSD/CDU-PP), Miguel Albuquerque, was named as a defendant in an investigation into alleged corruption on the archipelago.
The meeting of the XIV Legislative Assembly will begin on Thursday at 10:00 with the inauguration and creation of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira. That afternoon, at 16:00, the XV Regional Government, led by Miguel Albuquerque, takes office in the main hall of the Parliament of Madeira.
The outgoing regional government consists of the President of the Executive and eight regional secretaries: Jorge Carvalho (education, science and technology), Rui Barreto (economy, navigation and fisheries), Rogerio Gouveia (finance), Pedro Ramos (health and civil law) . Defense), Eduardo Jesus (tourism and culture), Rafaela Fernandez (agriculture and environment), Pedro Fino (equipment and infrastructure) and Ana Maria Freitas (inclusion and youth).
