The PSP arrested a 26-year-old man accused of several robberies of residential and local premises in the municipality of Vila Franca do Campo, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores. The suspect often operated at night and resorted to breaking and entering to enter properties.
Following several incidents, the regional command of this Azores police carried out an investigation in the area of Vila Franca do Campo, focusing in particular on the parishes where the highest levels of thefts were recorded: Ponta Garca, Ribeira Seca and Ribeira das Tainhas. The evidence pointed to a suspect that authorities had already cited.
For three months, the PSP said in a statement, the man had caused “uncertainty” among the local population. According to the same source, the suspect resorted to breaking and entering houses.
After the number of thefts increased, the accused was detained by order of the judiciary.
He has already appeared before a criminal judge in the Ponta Delgada court and is awaiting pre-trial detention.
