Mobile voting requires a citizen’s card and can be done abroad.

Citizens wishing to vote on the go must present an official document with an updated photograph at any table on the Portuguese mainland, in the regions or abroad, according to a spokesman for the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

Mobility voting “means that instead of going to your usual polling station where you are registered, you have the option, if you wish and without compromising your regular daily routine, to be able to go somewhere else” to do this. here, said Lusa Fernando Anastasio, CNE spokesman.

Now, in order to vote by mobility in the European elections on June 9, that is, at any polling station in the country or abroad, a citizen will have to present any official document with an updated photo, the person in charge recalled, indicating a sample passport, driver’s license or identity card.

You can also use the digital Citizen Card application.

In addition, through the portal for voters (www.portaldoeleitor.pt) it is possible to find out in real time where the nearest polling stations are and their turnout, the CNE representative emphasized.

“Any registered person can vote on the Portuguese mainland, in the regions and even abroad,” he said.

If a person is registered in the Algarve and is on holiday in Paris, they will be able to vote simply by presenting an official document with an updated photograph.

“Vote for the consular network,” and to do so, just go to the CNE page, he adds. Voting abroad will take place on June 8 and 9.

Regarding the increase in the number of ballots available on the tables, Fernando Anastasio said that “even if there were no mobility votes, the tables always receive 20% more votes than the votes of registered voters.”

For example, “if there are 1,200 voters at a table, he will receive 1,500 ballots,” he illustrated, noting that this happens across the country.

“There are organized mechanisms” that eliminate any logistical problems arising from the possible absence of ballots at a particular polling station, he stressed.

“According to the projections and organization organized by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the chambers, there will be enough material for voting at all polling stations,” he assured.

In places “where crowds are predicted to be larger, there are mechanisms in place to ensure there are no shortages of ballots,” he continued, ensuring that this “is not a major issue.”

The biggest concern is that “it’s all systems go in terms of communications, and this is something new,” he concluded.

Polling stations open on Sunday at 08:00 and close at 19:00.
