The reference value of the solidarity benefit for older people is increasing today. Starting this Saturday, seniors receiving CSI will also be eligible for free reimbursable medications.

A €50 increase in the basic value of the solidarity benefit for older people will come into effect this Saturday, rising to €600 a month, and will no longer take children’s income into account when assessing beneficiaries’ resources.

The annual cost of the Senior Citizens’ Solidarity Benefit (CSI) is now €7,208, divided over twelve months, and the benefit is revised depending on the new base value and the income of the beneficiaries.

A statement from the Ministry of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security (MTSSS) highlighted that “another important change” is the exclusion of children’s income from the assessment of beneficiaries’ resources.

“From this Saturday, children’s income will no longer be taken into account when assigning and reassessing the value of the CSI benefit, which will simplify the process and cover more people, eliminating the family component,” the ministry says.

He adds that with this change, estimates point to “an increase in the number of beneficiaries by 1,500 per year,” emphasizing that this social benefit is paid to “low-income retirees in an amount corresponding to the difference between the retiree’s income and new income.” link value.”

Starting this Saturday, seniors receiving CSI will also be eligible for free reimbursable medications with a doctor’s prescription, “just need to present the prescription at the pharmacy.”

According to information published after the measure was approved by the Council of Ministers, the measure will cover approximately 145 thousand CSI beneficiaries and will cost 10.4 million euros.

Monitoring will be carried out by Infarmed, which will evaluate performance and identify “possible situations of fraud or waste.”

To request CSI, a beneficiary candidate must fill out a form available on the Social Security Portal and deliver it to any Social Security Customer Service or through the e-Click counter of Social Security Direct, reminds MTSSS.

CSI is a monthly cash assistance payment to older adults living in poverty. Citizens over 66 years of age and with an annual income of less than or equal to 6,608 euros are eligible to participate. In the case of a couple, this income must be less than or equal to 11,564 euros.
