President Chegi found it “strange” this Thursday that the former Minister of Health and head of the PS list, Marta Temido, knew nothing about the case of the twins, and accused the Socialists of trying to “stifle this investigation.”
“Marta Temido was the Minister of Health at the time, it was her Secretary of State, and it is therefore unlikely that someone could circumvent the law and schedule a meeting of such importance and scale, involving a public watch cost of about 4 million euros, without the Minister asking “What is it,” he said.
André Ventura spoke to journalists before a street rally in Povoa de Varzim, Porto district, and commented on the searches carried out this Thursday in the context of the twins case and the constitution as the accused former Secretary of State António Lacerda Sales.
“It’s strange that the former minister doesn’t know anything and even, curiously, I heard your questions about whether she spoke to Lacerda Sales, and she said: “No, I called her the other day to congratulate her, because I was many years”. “, he criticized.
The leader of Chegi said that “if there was a Secretary of State who was suspected of embezzling, in quotes, four million euros for the benefit of someone”, he would want to know whether this “has any basis of truth” and whether it was any intervention.
“This all shows how the PS is complicit in trying to stifle this investigation and trying to protect some people,” he accused.
Former Health Minister Marta Temido confirmed this Thursday that she “has nothing to do” with the twins’ case, assuring that she believes in justice and refusing to comment on the “timing” of the searches.
Andre Ventura also believed that it was necessary to understand whether this was “an isolated incident or whether there is an octopus here, now or in the past, with an ongoing influence that has led to the creation of this type of enterprise in the state in recent years.”
President Chegi also once again asked the President of the Republic to provide an explanation to the commission of inquiry that his party imposed, given that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa “will benefit both him and the country if he comes forward and gives explanations about this.”
“We already had a Government that fell due to corruption, I don’t think anyone would like to see the President of the Republic now involved in a situation that arose largely because he himself decided not to give an explanation. And therefore, in light of today’s events, when such serious crimes are on the table, I would once again ask Marcelo Rebelo de Souza to make sure that he gives the clarification that he needs, he may be his son who is involved in this.” , he said.
Ventura believed that the Assembly of the Republic “will not interfere with the investigation carried out by the SP or the Ministry of Justice, it will conduct a parallel investigation, it will even ultimately contribute to this investigation and, naturally, it will have to comply with procedures.” , deadlines, etc.”
Regarding the hearing of the Lacerda Sales case before the commission of inquiry scheduled for June 17, the Chegi leader said that “it will continue” although “there will likely be restrictions and conditions” and indicated that he will also seek a hearing with the current Minister of Health Ana Paula Martins, who was chairwoman of the board of directors of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte when the case was made public.
Former Secretary of State for Health Antonio Lacerda Sales was named Monday as a defendant in the twins investigation. On the same day, his house became the target of judicial searches.
As part of the same process, the Judicial Police (PJ) is this Thursday searching two units of the National Health Service (one of them the Santa Maria Hospital) and social security institutions.
According to the ministry, the facts in question most likely constitute “a crime of malfeasance that clearly competes with the crime of abuse of power, the crime of abuse of power under the provisions of the Criminal Code and qualified fraud.”
