The Judicial Police (PJ) detained a 51-year-old woman suspected of setting fire to a forest on Sunday in Ovar, Aveiro district, the criminal police authority said on Friday.
In his statement, the SP clarified that the woman set a fire in two different places, in a vast forest area, next to houses, in the town of Valega.
“It was only due to the prompt detection that the fire did not reach a large scale,” the judiciary said, adding that several other fires of suspicious origin had recently occurred in the same area.
Investigators were unable to determine any rational motivation or plausible explanation for the actions under investigation because the woman suffered from “severe and long-term alcoholism with a tendency to repeat arson.”
Also, according to the joint venture, the detainee was taken to the judicial authorities of the Aveiro district for the first interrogation, and “coercive measures without detention” were applied to her.
