The head of the AD list in the European elections admitted on Sunday evening that in a democracy you “win and lose by one vote” and that he is about 0.8% of the vote short of beating his Socialist opponent Martha Fired.
“It was about 0.8% higher than AD. Some might even say it was a very close call,” said Sebastian Bugallo, who intervened after the preliminary results of the European elections became known, alluding to the words of socialist António Costa to the Europeans a decade ago when he was secretary general PS Antonio José Seguro.
Sebastián Bugallo said that in the same spirit of democratic culture that he believes defined the AD’s candidacy, he congratulated Marta Temido with a “loud voice.”
After the speeches, the evening ended with those present singing the anthem and waving coalition flags in celebration.
