Prime Minister Luis Montenegro will attend a meeting of the European Political Community (CPE) in London on July 18 to discuss European security in the context of the war in Ukraine, according to a memo from his office.
According to the Montenegro office, the topics discussed “are focused on the European security aspect following the Ukraine Peace Summit, which will take place in Switzerland a month earlier, on June 15 and 16.”
Other topics such as migration, defense of democracy, communications and energy should also be considered, although they are still being defined.
CPE is an informal forum for political, economic and security cooperation that brings together European countries that share democratic values.
At previous meetings, in addition to the leaders of the 27 EU member states, six Western Balkan countries (Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina), four EFTA members (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Norway), Western Partnership countries, with the exception of Belarus, which has been suspended (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine), the UK and Turkey have indicated the position of the head of government of Portugal.
The meeting was also attended by the Presidents of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Presidents of the European Council, Charles Michel.
