PS nominates Fernando Anastasio again for the National Electoral Commission

The PS parliamentary group will once again nominate former deputy Fernando Anastasio to the National Electoral Commission (CNE) in a vote scheduled for the 19th in parliament.

According to information sent to Lusa by an official source of the PS Parliamentary Group, to the National Electoral Commission (CNE), the Socialists will again nominate as effective Fernando José dos Santos Anastácio, the current representative of this body and a former deputy, and Filipe Lima Baselar as a replacement.

The National Electoral Commission (CNE) is an independent body that works together with the Assembly of the Republic and which, according to the terms of the relevant law, is composed of “citizens of recognized merit, appointed by the Assembly of the Republic, listed and proposed one by each parliamentary group.”

On Wednesday, Parliament will also elect seven members of the High Council of the Judiciary, with the PS – similar to what happened in April 2022 to draw up a joint list with the PSD – once again proposing Andre Miranda, Ines Ferreira as permanent members of Leyte and José Manuel Mesquita. The Socialists are nominating Thelma Solange Silva Carvalho and Alessandro Azevedo as reserve candidates.

Regarding the High Council of the Judiciary, the Constitution establishes that the Assembly of the Republic is responsible for electing the body’s seven members “by a two-thirds majority of the deputies present, if it exceeds the absolute number.” majority of deputies in power”, which requires, in the current parliamentary framework, the approval of the PS and PSD.

In addition to the High Council of Justice, deputies will elect five members “from among distinguished individuals” to the High Council of the Prosecutor’s Office. These elections do not require two-thirds approval.

In the High Council of the Ministry of State, the Socialists again put forward as effective the name of Vanya Gonçalves, to which they add Paulo Valeriu. They propose Pedro Ramos Almeida as a replacement.

The PS parliamentary group will propose former Secretary of State Isabel Rodríguez for the presidency of the Commission for Equality and Combating Racial Discrimination, and for the General Council of the Center for Judicial Studies, Rui Manuel Tavares Lanceiro as an effective candidate and Raquel Franco as deputy.

In the Commission for Access to Administrative Documents, the Socialists nominate Thiago Freitas as an effective candidate and Mariana Egidio as an alternate, and in the Commission for the Inspection of Educational Centers, Maria do Rosario Carneiro as an effective candidate and Rita Borges Madeiro as an alternate.

The PS has not yet nominated its candidates to the list of the Council of State, the political body that consults the president of the republic and whose elections are scheduled for the 19th after they were postponed in May.

In the previous legislature, five representatives proposed by the PS and PSD were elected on a joint list (Manuel Alegre, Carlos Cesar, Sampaio da Novoa, Francisco Pinto Balseman and Miguel Cadille), and Chega presented an alternative list in which no one was elected. . But if it happens again in this legislature, Chega will be able to elect one of the five candidates to the State Council, since it now includes more than a fifth of deputies.

According to the constitution, the Council of State is composed of “five citizens elected by the Assembly of the Republic in accordance with the principle of proportional representation for a period corresponding to the duration of the legislative body.”

For the presidency of the Supreme Economic Council (SEC), the PSD will nominate former Secretary of State Luis Pais Antunes to succeed socialist Francisco Assis, an election that requires a two-thirds majority approval.
