This Thursday, the council of the Socialist Party (PS) of Viseu expressed “full solidarity” with the board of directors of the local health department of Viseu-Dao-Laphonse (ULSVDL), which resigned due to “abuse of political trust” in supervision. .

In a document sent to the Luz agency and signed by the chairman of the council, Lucia Araujo da Silva, the PS “emphasizes that restrictions on autonomy in hospital management are often a barrier to finding the answers that are necessary for the good functioning of the hospital.” hospital department.”

“The lack of human resources, namely the lack of doctors, is a structural problem of the SNA and the responsibility cannot be assigned only to the board of directors of the Viseu hospital, but above all must be taken by those who oversee health, or rather the Ministry of Health. This has always been the case in different governments, and this cannot be different,” he said.

The PS recognizes the outgoing administration’s “excellent work” in various situations, including the Covid-19 pandemic, hospital expansion work and the establishment of a molecular myology laboratory.

“An investment of more than 24 million euros, which will include a radiotherapy department and a hemato-oncology day hospital, as well as a project for the construction of a new psychiatric hospital in Viseu. The board of directors of ULSVDL demanded her resignation this Thursday due to the “clear breach of political trust” of the Minister of Health in the “current management team of the unit” following her statements on Wednesday at a parliamentary hearing.

Ana Paula Martins said that “it is unacceptable to have hospitals in January with professionals who have already reached the amount of mandatory annual overtime” and believed that health managers were “weak” and in this sense argued that “there must be audits, there must be performance assessment managers’ work.”

The local health department of Viseu-Dau-Lafoynes activated a contingency plan on March 1 due to a shortage of doctors, resulting in pediatric emergency departments being closed from Friday to Sunday at night.

According to the ULSVDL administration, the departure of two doctors and the onset of the holiday period “exacerbated” the situation, which led to the closure of the pediatric emergency department from June 1, every night of the week from 20:00 to 8:00.
