According to ANM, the body was discovered “near a rock in the area of Ponta Delgada”, in a place “inaccessible by land”, following an alert received on Thursday afternoon through the Maritime Security Coordination Centre. and Rescue of Ponta Delgada (MRCC Delgada).
After the alarm, members of the local command of the maritime police of Santa Cruz das Flores were immediately brought to the scene, who discovered that it was “the body of a man of 82 years old”, but “the reasons underlying the incident”, the Maritime Department explains in a press release. release.
The death was “confirmed on the spot” by a health official, and the body was collected by members of the Santa Cruz Marine Police Local Command and then transported to the hospital by the Santa Cruz das Flores Volunteer Firefighters, the statement said.
The National Maritime Authority also says the NCIS Psychological Unit has been activated and is providing support to the victim’s family.
