This Saturday, the Ministry of Health ensured that maps showing which emergency departments in gynecology and obstetrics are open on the Portuguese mainland are updated “at least once a day” and SNS24/INEM is updated “down to the minute”.
Contacted by Lusa, a source from the office of Minister Ana Paula Martins acknowledged that there may be “omissions” among the updates, but assured that “maps are updated at least once a day, and SNS24/INEM is updated every minute.” .
According to the same source, 90 gynecological/obstetric services will open on the Portuguese mainland this Saturday.
Seven are closed and nine are restricted.
This Saturday, Ana Paula Martins will visit emergency services in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region, during a tour that started at the S. Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal.
Speaking to SIC, the health minister acknowledged that the mapping system may contain “some errors” but sought to convey a message of calm.
“In fact, the system is still not working properly and we had errors yesterday. [sexta-feira]. Tests are being carried out. I hope that next week the General Services of the Ministry of Health will be able to receive this information, which is dynamic and increasingly improved,” said Ana Paula Martins.
When asked about the errors on the map discovered this Saturday, a government official noted that the situations were only detected in the Setúbal peninsula.
“I accept that there may be others, we must always evaluate until we optimize the system,” he concluded.
In addition to the Setubal Hospital, the Health Minister’s program this Saturday includes visits to the Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital in Lisbon, the Beatriz Angelo Hospital in Loures and the Fernando da Fonseca Hospital in Amadora.
“These are working visits to talk to teams, be on the ground and give people peace of mind. The plan is to make such visits more often and be on the ground as much as possible,” said a source in the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Health was told by Lusa.
In addition to the release of emergency cards, Ana Paula Martins evaluates the functioning of the SNS Grávida line created in accordance with the Health Emergency Plan presented on May 29.
To date, 3,854 calls have been recorded, equivalent to an average of 275 calls per day.
In this regard, as well as along the axis called “Safe children and mothers”, care was promoted by creating a direct service channel for pregnant women through SNS 24 (SNS Grávida), providing financial incentives to increase the ability to carry out childbirth and strengthening agreements with social and private sectors.
At the same time, it was announced that the government intended to create a reference regime for emergency gynecological care, update the staffing and composition of teams in maternity hospitals based on scientific and technical criteria, and also revise the table of agreed prices for ultrasound for pregnant women.
In the longer term – structuring measures – the executive branch points to the separation of the specialties of gynecology and obstetrics, increased monitoring of pregnant women by nursing specialists and the creation of new organizational structures for maternity hospitals.
