The government will fail the economic growth that the Democratic Alliance included in its election platform and has already failed those over 35 who have not received visible tax benefits, the president of the Liberal Initiative (IL) said this Sunday.

“The economic growth that AD included in his election program will fail. Given the fragile, insufficient and unambitious measures this government is taking, no matter how many plans it announces, economic growth will not be as AD predicted,” he said. Rui Rocha speaks at the opening of the National Council of IL, which takes place today in Coimbra.

“There the Portuguese will fail because the decline in IRC [Imposto sobre o Rendimento das Pessoas Coletivas] piecemeal, watered down, insufficient, it will not bring the foreign investment we need, it will not bring the companies we need, it will not lead to struggle and competition for the wages that the country needs and which, in fact, will lead to all Portuguese living better. This will not happen and I hold AD responsible for the lack of ambition in this project,” said Rui Rocha.

The MP and leader of the Portuguese Liberals reiterated that economic growth and tax cuts are linked, and accused the government led by Luís Montenegro of already failing the Portuguese people over 35, “who see that they have no visible tax benefits.” in these decisions,” and they don’t see a horizon for that to happen.

Addressing the government, which is entering its third month, Rui Rocha warned that after the European elections and numerous announcements of measures, “now is the time to govern,” demanding health measures where he said “problems persist.” , and not because of lack of courage, not because of patches, not because of emergency plans,” reforms are being carried out.

And also in the housing sector, where, despite a set of measures to stimulate demand, the leader of IL noted that the problem exists “and will not be solved, but, on the contrary, will worsen if the AD government stubbornly does not take measures to stimulate demand.” supply”.

In his speech and referring to the results of the European elections, in which IL managed to elect two members of the European Parliament, Rui Rocha argued that the party now has an increased responsibility: “It is very important that the Portuguese vote freely, but that they do so not only European elections, but also at the legislative level, and this result brings us additional responsibility to fight (…) so that at the legislative level a compensation circle is finally introduced that allows. There should be no Portuguese with first and second choice,” he stressed.

The President of the Liberal Initiative emphasized that in the current political framework there is no possibility of making serious forecasts about the future of the country, while refusing to engage in futurology, assuring that the IL will always be against populism and extremism of the left. or right, and confirmed his party’s struggle against socialism.

And he concluded his speech by challenging the government: “It is impossible to change the country structurally, it is impossible to change it, affecting housing, affecting health, economic growth and taxation, unless there is the courage to carry out real administrative reform of the state. We will be here to demand this reform from the AD government,” he stressed.
