PCP wants to listen to healthcare workers and AR ministers about difficulties in emergency situations

This Monday, PCP submitted a request to Parliament for an urgent hearing of the doctors’, nurses’ and health workers’ unions, as well as the Minister of Health, regarding the difficulties in providing emergency care in SNS hospitals.

In a document presented this Monday to the Assembly of the Republic and addressed to the President of the Health Commission, Ana Abrunhos, the parliamentary group of communists warns of the shortcomings and difficulties encountered during emergencies in different areas of the country, such as Lisbon, the south and the center of the country.

Considering the approach of summer, a typically “more difficult” period, and with the aim of “strengthening the social network in the future”, the PKP wants to hear at the headquarters of Parliament the National Federation of Doctors, the Portuguese Union of Nurses, the National Union of Chief Medical Officers in Diagnostics and Therapeutics and National Federation of Trade Unions of State and Social Workers.

The communists also want an explanation from the government, adding to the list of people who will be heard the Minister of Health Ana Paulo Martins, who has already been criticized by PKP secretary general Paulo Raimundo after negative comments about the heads of hospitals in the National Health Service.

In this request, PCP recalls the complete or partial closure of several emergency services in hospitals such as São Teotónio in Viseu, García de Orta Hospital in Almada and Nossa Senhora do Rosario Hospital in Barreiro, which requires travel using their own resources until nearest open hospitals or long waiting times.

“Due to a shortage of healthcare workers, hospital emergency departments were unable to complete their shifts in a variety of circumstances, resulting in long waits,” the PCP states.

The party also accuses the current government and the previous government led by the PS of choosing to “close on a rotational basis and at certain periods various emergency services, rather than take measures to recruit and retain specialists in the SNS, namely by valuing careers.” wages and guarantees of working conditions.”

“Closing emergency services creates insecurity and mistrust among users. This way, users never know what to expect when harming them. The only people who benefit from the decline of social media are the private groups that profit from this disease. “, defends the party in a request addressed to the health commission.
