The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said this Wednesday that in Lusa “there is a need for technological upgrading”, similar to what is happening in the sector, adding that the state should constitute a “clear majority” in the shareholder structure of the news agency.
Pedro Duarte spoke before the parliamentary committee on culture, communications, youth and sport as part of regulatory hearings.
Regarding Lusa, the ruler listed some principles, highlighting the first: “We want a Lusa in which the state has a clear majority in the capital.”
The minister stressed that in Portugal there is no longer a news agency and “the state must be there”, it is the “last stronghold” in the face of the threats that exist in this environment in terms of disinformation, information that is not true. and strict.
“The state must guarantee the existence of a national news agency,” which enjoys “very high authority,” which turns into “an excellent asset, just like RTP,” which must be “preserved and enhanced,” he continued.
Moreover, “there is a need for technological modernization, it is a necessity,” and “Lusa is no different” in terms of the need for this, Pedro Duarte said.
“We will also have to pay attention to this aspect,” he concluded.
