CTT will stop selling scratch cards

The Minister of Infrastructure announced this Friday that CTT would “stop selling scratch cards”, in line with Livre’s proposal, and praised the company’s current management, led by Joao Bento.

João Galamba spoke in Parliament on the bill on the criteria for the application and allocation of costs for the regulation of the postal sector.

“For example, CTT – I don’t know if this is new – will stop selling scratch cards,” the official said, citing the decision as answering the “concerns” of Livre Rui Tavares and Left Bloc (BE) deputies. Mariana Mortagua.

As such, “the leadership of the current CTT administration will stop using the CTT network to sell scratch cards and dedicate itself to exactly what Mr. Rui Tavares said he would like CTT to do, which the government would also like CTT to do.” , and the good news is that the current management of CTT has the same vision,” said Joao Galamba.

During the debate, Rui Tavares questioned “is it compatible” with the public service provided by the CTT, “the promotion of vice, which in Portugal, compared to its counterparts, is much more pronounced, more serious and has a regressive social impact.” on the most vulnerable, the poor in the post offices themselves.

For this reason, Livre has suggested ditching scratch cards.

In other words, “a radically different understanding from the one that here and correctly defined the deputy Mariana Mortagua, and to value precisely this capillarity and the network of CTT, services of proximity in articulation with the population, with municipal councils, with local companies, in order to evaluate capillarity as a network of proximity precisely in conditions defended by Ruy Tavares, the Minister of Infrastructure continued.

In his speech, João Galamba emphasized that “the policy of the current administration of the CTT seems to be in line with the wishes of the Left Bloc and the PKP and, by the way, Rui Tavares, he stressed, that is, “the view is completely different from the network of branches that is present in all 308 municipalities, has 569 own stores and nearly 1,800 operated post offices” and sells CTT products and services.

João Galamba acknowledged that there were problems similar to those identified by Communist MP Bruno Dias and stated that it was necessary to “correct the problem of delays, but ruled out any scenario of canceling privatization.”

“It seems wrong to me (…) that simply not privatizing automatically solves the problem,” he said, stressing that “different management, stricter regulation and concern from the government about the direction of CTT towards the civil service has demonstrated that this Maybe”.

Instead of “fixing on ideological options, we really focused on the services provided to the population, on the capillarity of the network and the change in leadership and philosophy of CTT, it seems to us that this is the most important thing, not ideological fixations, but a concrete solution to the problems of the population, and this what is happening and obviously the government likes it,” he concluded.
