The president’s son was in Lisbon to attend a web summit, and “one of the activities of the Brazilian delegation was related to the field of medicine and health.” The thesis contradicts statements made by Lacerda Sales to the Expresso newspaper in December 2023 about one of the reasons for the meeting: “He told me that he knew two Portuguese-Brazilian children with spinal muscular atrophy, about 1 year old, and that it was important to take medication [Zolgensma] until about 2 years old.”
According to a letter addressed to the MP, Nuno Rebelo de Souza only sent information about the twins to the then Secretary of State in November 2021, with Lacerda Sales informing him “that someone from his office would be contacting the children’s parents,” with subsequent contacts occurring “directly between them.” Lacerda Sales said he met for a second time with the president’s son to talk on a different topic, along with two Brazilian businessmen.
