Twelve emergency obstetric and pediatric units closed on Sunday.

Twelve of the country’s emergency obstetric and pediatric departments will be closed on Sunday, the day the largest number of these services are closed, according to a timeline until next Thursday released today by the Department of Health.

According to a map published on the National Health Service portal, in addition to the 12 closed emergency departments (seven obstetrics and five paediatrics), on Sunday they will be partially open or reserved only for patients referred by CODU and INEM, a further nine, while they a total of 125 such services will be open 24 hours a day on mainland Portugal.

Because shift restrictions are more noticeable in OB/GYN and Pediatrics, three emergency departments are closed today, nine will be closed Saturday, four will be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and three will be closed on Thursday.

Lisbon and Vale do Tejo remain the region where the largest number of emergency services are limited or closed until next Thursday, with Alentejo being the only region in the country where these services are fully open during this period, the large-scale map shows.

In the area of Lisbon and Tagus ValleyFor the next six days, the obstetric and pediatric emergency departments will be closed in the hospitals of São Bernardo (Setúbal), Santarem, García de Orta (Almada), Beatriz Angelo (Lures), Nossa Senhora do Rosario (Arco Ribeirinho) and Rainha Santa Isabel. According to the Ministry of Health, this format, which can be updated daily, was designed for the “immediate and expeditious dissemination” of schedules of available emergency services, even if due to “insurmountable restrictions” these data may undergo punctual changes.

Last week, the ministry announced that a new interactive page will soon be available, which will be uploaded directly by hospitals and will display the nearest available emergency service for users to use at any time.
