CPI in the twins case satisfied the SDP’s request for clarification of judicial secrecy

The parliamentary commission of inquiry into the case of the Portuguese-Brazilian twins on Tuesday unanimously approved the PSD’s request to clarify the concept of judicial secrecy after Nuno Rebelo de Sousa said he would not speak.

At a meeting of the parliamentary commission of inquiry, PSD coordinator António Rodríguez explained that the request “became much more justified” after the son of the President of the Republic confirmed his hearing via video conference on July 3.

For António Rodríguez, “it is important that you know” what Nuno Rebelo de Sousa could say to the commission as an accused, so that he does not “limit himself to absolute silence.”

Last week, António Rodriguez said his parliamentary group would request an opinion from the legal auditor of the Assembly of the Republic to “clearly define what the concept of judicial secrecy is in the light of the parliamentary commissions of inquiry.”

Thus, according to the Socialist-Democratic MP, the commission could confront any accused.

“This week there was conflicting information on this matter, namely an unclear “email” received by the commission from lawyer Nuno Rebelo de Souza, which in some way indicated a refusal to even appear before the commission and apparently stating that he would not do no statements or transfer of documents except to the prosecutor’s office,” he said.

On Wednesday, the lawyer for the son of the head of state told the investigative commission that he refused to give explanations, admitting, however, that he would attend the hearings “in the future.”

In the same letter to Nuno Rebelo de Sousa does not refuse to attend the parliamentary inquiry.

It was announced today that the hearing in the case of the son of the President of the Republic will take place next week.

The response sent by his lawyers to the investigative commission and to which Luza had access states that “Nuno Rebelo de Souza will be at the CPI via video conference on July 3 at 14:00.”

On Friday, the parliamentary commission of inquiry into the case of the twins treated at the Santa Maria Hospital once again demanded the presence of the son of the President of the Republic, proposing to hear him on July 3 or 12 in person or by video conference.

Also on Tuesday, a hearing was unanimously approved with businessman José Magro, who, according to BE deputy Joana Mortagua, is a friend of Nuno Rebelo de Sousa and hints that it was he who intervened to set up the meeting.
