Luxury condominium builder arrested in Turkey

A Turkish builder of a collapsed private condominium with more than 1,000 people in Hatay province has been arrested while trying to flee to Montenegro, the daily Cumhuriyet reported.

Hussein Yalcin Coskun, who built one of the most luxurious condominiums in Antioquia, consisting of 12 blocks and 250 apartments, was arrested while he was at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport on his way to Montenegro.

Renaissance Residence, one of the city’s most exclusive developments, was built in 2013 and featured ads that defined its apartments as a “picture of paradise” and also ensured that they were built to the strictest quality and safety standards. .

The complex has been home to famous personalities in the city, the provincial capital of Hatay, such as Christian Atsu, a Ghanaian footballer from Hatayspor who went missing, possibly under rubble.

The luxurious building, which was completely destroyed, has become a symbol of poor-quality construction in an earthquake-prone area.

The arrest of the builder occurred after the security services warned of his possible departure through one of the airports in Istanbul.

From the first days of the tragedy, various “media” warned of the need to take measures at the borders in order to prevent the escape of the builders of the collapsed buildings.

Prosecutors have opened investigations in ten provinces affected by the earthquake, in particular with respect to collapsed buildings.
