A form for landlords to request compensation is available from 1 July.

A form for landlords to access government compensation for old rent will be available on the housing portal on Monday, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing.

The date was proposed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing in response to Lusa’s questions and is already visible on the aforementioned portal.

“IHRU [Instituto da Habitação e da Reabilitação Urbana] will provide a zone on the Housing Portal dedicated exclusively to supporting landlords, the form of which will be available to the public on July 1,” the ministry said in a statement.

This is compensation to landlords with old rents whose contracts will remain in this configuration because they do not switch to the new urban rental regime, as defined by the Mais Habitação law.

The conditions and steps required for landlords to receive this compensation are set out in a decree-law published late last year.

Last week, the Lisbon Owners Association expressed concern, expecting “total chaos” due to the lack of guidance for landlords to claim compensation for old rent.

At stake are approximately 125,000 landlords with old rents that are not being passed on to the NRAU, namely tenants age 65 or older or with a disability greater than 60%, as well as household rents with annual income-adjusted gross wages ( RABC). less than five times the minimum annual national salary.

The compensation in question provides for the payment to these landlords of compensation equivalent to the difference between the cost of rent and 1/15 of the share value of the house.
