The 71-year-old man was rescued on Friday from Setubal after family members alerted him to his disappearance, the Navy said in a statement on Saturday.
Following the alarm, at 14:55, the resources of the Setúbal Local Marine Police Command, a vessel from the Sesimbra Rescue Station, NRP Setúbal, the Portuguese Navy and a Portuguese Air Force aircraft were deployed to search for the vessel, the statement said.
After the rescue operations were completed at 19:24, “information was received from the Setubal Port Master that the ship had entered the port of Sines after four and a half hours of drifting,” the press release added.
During this period, we also read, the boat the man was traveling on traveled “about 33 nautical miles, approximately 61 kilometers.”
“The citizen was assisted by the local command of the Sines Marine Police and is in good health,” the statement said.
