The government maintains the mechanism for supporting professional diesel fuel until August 31

The government has decided to extend the temporary support mechanism for professional diesel fuel until August 31. The measure amounts to around eight million euros per month, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing said in a statement.

In the note, the guardianship indicated that it had decided to “extend until August 31 the temporary emergency professional diesel mechanism created by Decree-Law No. 43-A/2022 of July 6,” with immediate effect.

The government stressed that “as part of measures to mitigate the rise in fuel prices,” it will maintain “the mechanism for partial refund of the tax on oil and energy products (ISP) supported by freight transport companies for third parties.”

This measure, which translates into “monthly support of about eight million euros,” was defined in 2022 “as a response to rising fuel prices due to the conflict in Ukraine,” he recalled.

“Since the reasons justifying the measure in question remain partially extended, the diploma, aimed at meeting the specific conditions of this transport sector, covers eligible deliveries that take place between 1 July and 31 August 2024,” the trusteeship stressed.

Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz, mentioned in the same note, wanted to emphasize the “commitment of the government and the supervisory authority to decarbonization.”

However, he believes that “this decision is a response to the pressure that rising costs still put on value chains.”
