Sport TV and DAZN have lifted the curtain on their European broadcasts starting next season a little more this Monday. It was already common knowledge that the two players would jointly broadcast UEFA competitions starting in the 2024/25 season, but now we know a little more about how this will be done.
Hence Sport TV will broadcast all matches of Sporting and Benfica in the Champions League and Porto in the Europa League.. This is because the station has a “one-game-per-day preference” for the Champions, Europa League and Conference League, meaning that even after the possible elimination of the Portuguese teams, Sport TV will continue to show the best game of the day (theoretically) in all three tests. In this scenario, the semi-finals and final of the Champions League, for example, would be shown on Sport TV.
It is worth noting that all the matches of the 8th round of the Champions League will be held on the same day. Despite this, Sport TV will be able to broadcast the games of Benfica and Sporting, as it has the right of preference for two matches in this round.
On the other side, DAZN, which has acquired the broadcast rights to five UEFA competitions next season (2024/25 – 2026/27), will have rights to the majority of matches.. If we analyze the next season, then out of a total of 545 games in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League this season, exclusive rights will belong to 489, that is, almost 90%. If we look only at the Champions League, DAZN will have 166 out of 203 in UEFA’s largest tournament, that is, 81%.
Please note that there will be no live UEFA competition matches in the 2024/25 season.
