Police rescue Portuguese businessman kidnapped in South Africa

A Portuguese businessman who was kidnapped a week ago on the outskirts of Johannesburg (South Africa) has been rescued.

Mark Ramos, 49, the son of a Madeiran, was surprised by seven armed men as he was closing the butcher’s shop where he works. Albertina Sisulu drove down the road and was forced to get into a car.

The group later demanded a ransom, but police and private security intervened and the victim was found in a house in Snake Park, Soweto. He was injured but did not require medical attention. A few hours later, one of the gang members was arrested.

According to the Portuguese Forum of South Africa, 17 Portuguese businessmen were kidnapped in the first six months of the year, worrying more than 500,000 Portuguese people or their descendants.

In the last week alone, three Portuguese people have been kidnapped and there has also been a murder. in this case, it is the wife of a Portuguese man who was killed when an armed group attacked two cars in which the couple was travelling.
