Emma Martinez Gascon, 12, died peritonitis on Monday in a hospital in Valencia, Spain, after three trips to the emergency room where no problems were diagnosed.

On Sunday, Emma became worse and her heart stopped. Parents withThey called an ambulance, which arrived within 12 minutes and was able to stabilize her condition. “She was taken to the Clínico de Valencia hospital, where the pediatric team was already waiting for her for surgery,” recalls her father.
“Then she had a cardiorespiratory attack again, they still tried to resuscitate her for about two hours, but in the end she died,” he added.
The cause of death was “purulent peritonitis”, an infection of the lining surrounding the intestines (peritoneum), which eventually led to a generalized infection.
“How did it happen that after three trips to the doctor they could not do either an ultrasound or a blood test? Emma died of something preventable after eight days of suffering,” the father asks.
The family intends to file a complaint against the hospital administration for medical negligence.
