On Tuesday, President Chegi accused the prime minister of arrogance for saying the government would not invest more in the security forces proposal and stepped up calls for the police to have their say.
“The Portuguese Prime Minister, who promised to solve the problem created by the previous government, tells the country, as if defiantly, as if out of pride, as if out of arrogance, that he will not give a cent to the police or the security forces. This shows that the government has never had, does not have and will not be sensitive to the fundamental issue of the security forces,” said André Ventura.
The leader of Chega addressed reporters at the Assembly of the Republic in response to the prime minister’s statements. Luis Montenegro said the government would not invest “another cent” in the security forces proposal, saying it had already made “terrible efforts” and could not “bring back financial instability.”
“It is not a question of cents, it is not a question of giving more or giving less or standing up, it is not a question of hysteria. It is a historical injustice created by the previous government and which the law had to correct. determination,” said André Ventura.
President Cégi considered that “it is obvious that the government does not want and will not solve the problem”, but called on the SDP, as well as the PS, to put “hands on conscience” and approve Cégi’s proposal that the risk premium assigned to the judicial police be extended to the PSP, GNR and prison guards.
Ventura also accused the government of “fomenting discord, frustration and resentment among the police and security forces” and called on them to speak out on Thursday.
“I think that with this strong and clear statement from the Prime Minister it will become even more obvious and understandable why all the security forces, why all the police should be here in Parliament next Thursday, the fair, to hear the debate, to show their indignation outside Parliament, but also inside Parliament, to be able to show, to see those who say they are on their side and who in fact will not be,” he said.
