The United States on Thursday welcomed a two-week humanitarian truce that begins this Friday agreed upon by parties to the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo), the White House announced.
“A two-week humanitarian truce will begin at midnight local time on July 5. [hoje] and will last until July 19, obligates parties to the conflict to silence their weapons, allow the voluntary return of displaced persons, and provide humanitarian personnel with unrestricted access to vulnerable populations,” Adrienne Watson, spokesperson for the House National Security Council, said in a statement released this morning.
“The ceasefire covers the areas of hostilities that most affect the civilian population,” the text adds.
