The leader of the Socialist Party, Pedro Nuno Santos, responded to the Prime Minister this Monday that the Socialists also have obligations to voters and asked for signs of dialogue if the desire to negotiate is real.
During a visit to the Castelo Branco district during the parliamentary days, Pedro Nuno Santos was confronted with statements today by Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, who said he was willing to negotiate with other parties, but warned that he refused to engage in political games and that he preferred to “leave” than not fulfill his commitments to the country.
“I understand the Prime Minister, but I and the PS deputies also have obligations. We are committed to those who voted for the PS, to the principles that also guided the development of our program, to our system of values, principles,” he emphasized.
The PS leader stressed that the commitment of the socialists is “as firm as the commitment of the prime minister.”
“But if the prime minister has this attitude, then we are obviously in bad shape,” he lamented.
According to Pedro Nuno Santos, “if there is a desire for dialogue, if there is a desire to negotiate, then it is good that signals are being sent in this direction.”
“Otherwise these are just words, and this, frankly speaking, does not solve any problem for us,” he warned.
The PS leader took advantage of his visit to a school in Vila de Rei to criticise the government of Luis Montenegro.
“In eight years, we have never had a problem recruiting or employing teachers. Never. There should not be an SDP government that does not have problems at the start of the school year,” he said.
According to Pedro Nuno Santos, “once again” the PSD-led government “is having problems with the start of the school year”, believing that the current leader’s ability to justify himself to the previous one will be lost over time.
“To govern means to solve problems, to execute, to govern, to govern. And this is where we all realize that we have an unprepared government,” he charged.
