Three men and two women were arrested in Ponta Delgada on the island of Sao Miguel on suspicion of committing a drug trafficking crime, the Public Security Police (PSP) announced today.
According to the Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) of the Azores, the suspects were detained by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Ponta Delgada Police Department as part of an investigation conducted by a judge of the Ministry of Public Safety.
The police report states that “over the course of seven months, the anti-crime brigade of the Criminal Investigation Department of the PSP carried out numerous investigative measures that allowed them to uncover a network of dealers in various types of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.”
“Based on the evidence collected by the PSP, a large-scale police operation was carried out with the involvement of the rapid response team, kinesthetic means from the special police unit, as well as forensic experts, during which two house searches and eight searches of persons not living at home were carried out,” he added.
During the operation, 660 doses of synthetic drugs, 272 doses of hashish, marijuana, a car, 3,560 euros and other items related to the alleged criminal activity were seized.
The suspects were brought to the Ponta Delgada Court for a first judicial examination, with three placed under preventive detention, one with an identity card and residence permit, and the other placed under house arrest.
